The 500E looked almost identical to an ordinary W124 at a glance, and that restraint is exactly what made it one of the great sleeper sedans of its era.

The zinc alloy body carries genuine heft, and the doors, hood and trunk all open to expose the cabin and engine bay proportions that hint at the V8 the real car hid under a deceptively conservative shell. Panels settle rather than drop when released. The Bornit Metallic finish is a warm, understated bronze-brown tone, and getting it right matters on a sedan whose entire appeal rests on subtlety rather than aggressive styling cues; under direct light this casting shows an even, believable metallic depth rather than a flat approximation. This is a used model, and the box shows traces of storage; the casting itself carries no separate condition flag, so the model rewards close inspection on arrival rather than an assumption of pristine finish. The widened fender flares, subtle but real on the actual car, read clearly in miniature.

A Sedan Partly Built by Porsche

Mercedes lacked spare production capacity for the 500E's V8 and widened body, so much of its assembly took place at Porsche's Zuffenhausen facility, a collaboration between two rival German manufacturers that remains one of the more unusual footnotes in either brand's history. The result was a sedan that could embarrass sports cars in a straight line while looking almost identical to a standard W124 in a parking lot.
