About the MG Metro 6R4 #10 M. Wilson / N. Harris RAC Rally 1986 IXO 1:18

The Metro 6R4 remains one of Group B's more unusual homologation specials, a hatchback silhouette stretched over a four-wheel-drive, naturally-aspirated V6 platform, and this RAC Rally livery documents it in its home event.

Diecast Detail on the 6R4's Bodywork

The 6R4's flared arches and boxy widebody kit sit far outside the standard Metro shape, and reproducing that transformation asks a lot of a casting: the arch flares need crisp, consistent edges and the rally-spec bumpers and vents need to read clearly at 1:18. Zinc alloy diecast delivers exactly that combination of weight and edge definition, and because this body is sealed with no opening parts, the flared panels sit fixed with continuous shut lines rather than a hinge line breaking up the widebody profile. The model's cast-in vents and light pod mounts carry period Group B detailing without needing separate fitted parts, a construction choice that suits a subject already visually dense before livery is added.

A British Group B Oddity

Unlike its turbocharged Group B rivals, the 6R4 ran a bespoke naturally-aspirated V6, a deliberate British answer to the era's turbo arms race, and the RAC Rally was its home-soil showcase. The M. Wilson / N. Harris entry represents one of several 6R4 crews British teams fielded during Group B's brief, intense run before the category's 1986 ban.
