By the time Ford built the RS3100, the Capri's racing ambitions had outgrown every earlier homologation attempt, and the road car had to catch up.

The Last, Loudest Homologation Capri

The RS3100 arrived in 1974 as Ford's final push to keep the Capri competitive in European Touring Car racing, enlarging the V6 to satisfy engine-class rules and adding the tall rear spoiler that became the road car's most recognizable feature. That spoiler wasn't styling flourish; it addressed real aerodynamic instability the racing version suffered at high speed, and Ford had to build enough road cars wearing it to legalize the part for competition. The result was a genuinely raw road car, closer to a race car with license plates than any earlier Capri RS variant, built in numbers small enough that surviving examples now command serious attention among European touring-car specialists.
